Calculus has just developed a new, but terrible weapon that uses ultrasounds. On a journey to Geneva, Calculus and the plans are kidnapped by the Bordurians, who want to obtain its invention. Tintin and Haddock go there to rescue him. When they finally find Calculus, he is taken by Syldavian spies. Their plane is intercepted and Calculus is recaptured by Borduria. Tintin and Haddock fly away for Szohd, the Bordurian capital. With the assistance of Castafiore, they seize papers of General Sponsz, head of the operation, which will allow them to release Calculus. After a race towards the border, they are back to Marlinspike where Calculus destroys its plans.
