| Brief Description: | Based on the book Rescuers: Portraits of Moral Courage in the Holocaust, directed by Peter Bogdanovich and executive produced by Barbra Streisand and Cis Corman, these two true-life dramas feature the courageous stories of two women who risked their lives for the love of humanity in order to defend the Jewish people during the Nazi regime. In Mamushka, Gertruda Babilinska (Elizabeth Perkins) is a Polish nanny employed by the wealthy Jewish Stolowitsky family, who devotes her life to the Stolowitskys and travels with them as they flee from the Nazis, agreeing to protect and care for the Stolowitsky's young son, Mickey, and raise him in his Jewish faith after his parents die. Woman on a Bicycle is the story of Marie-Rose Gineste (Sela Ward), a single woman employed by the Church who helps counterfeit special identity documents for Jewish refugees. With the aid of her bicycle, Marie-Rose travels to various villages disseminating secret communications to assist the underground resistance movement. |
