| Brief Description: | The number of English Words in the vocabulary is about 15,000 and of these some 55,000 meanings have been given in Roman Punjabi. The reader must be prepared to find in this work, many words which are Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit and Arabic and Persian, and they have been freely included as they are in common daily use amongst the villagers. There are many english words for which there is no equivalent whatever in Punjabi, and in these cases simple Urdu or Hindi words, well understood by even the illiterate villager, have been used to express their meanings.
An effort has been made to include only those words which are in ordinary daily use by the people, and those words have been discarded which - although they may be found in the Granth Sahib - are not understood by the ordinary people. |
