Unlike English, which may have several words to describe, for example, an article of clothing, Mohawk uses only one: the word at ya tawi refers to anything that coers the upper part of the body. In English we could use several nouns such as coat, shirt, dress, blouse. The Iroquoian culture places little emphasis on objects or things.
