Based on a novel by Su Tong (Raise the Red Lantern), this sprawling, multi-generational Chinese drama features impressive performances from Zhang Ziyi and Joan Chen. The story begins in 1930s Shanghai, where the aspiring movie star Mo (Zhang) begins a romance with a studio manager (Wen Jiang) who leaves her pregnant and abandoned.
