One of the French Creoles, and very close historically and liguistically to the forms of Creole spoken in Guadaloupe, Martinique and other Carribean Islands, Haitien has developed a separate identity thanks to the long independent history of Haiti. It is one of the essential everyday language, used throughout the island.There are about 6,000,000 speakers of Hatian.
