In many ways, Rohmer's most offbeat film since 1978's Perceval. The film centers on the relationship between two young women: Reinette, a naive but talented painter from the provinces, and Mirabelle, a worldly Parisian student who meets Reinette during summer vacation and invites her to share an apartment during the upcoming school year.
