Language Information


One of the Nilotic group of Nilo-saharan Languages, Dinka is spoken in the Upper Nile valley of Southern Sudan. Dinka speakers call themselves Jieng. The Arabic version Denkawi, whence English Dinka.

There are four main dialects of Dinka: Northern Dinka or Padang; Western Dinka or Rek; Central or South - Western Dinka or Agar; Eastern or South-eastern Dinka or Bor.
