| Brief Description: | This course, the first of its kind, teaches the basics of Cherokee, the native tongue of about 20,000 Americans who use it only as a second language. The two main dialects of Cherokee in use today are North Carolina and Oklahoma. The dialect of this course is Oklahoma. Beginning Cherokee, developed by linguist Ruth Bradley Holmes and Betty Sharp Smith, a native speaker of Cherokee, is organized in 27 lessons with accompanying exercises. Appendixes and alphabetical vocabulary lists are included in the text. The extensive vocabulary lists are Cherokee - English and English-Cherokee. When you have finished this course you will be able to say many useful expressions in Cherokee, and know and understand Cherokee writing, the creation of Sequoya, one of the great leaders and scholars in Native American history. |
