| Brief Description: | Army-Navy Screen Magazine was a biweekly news and information short
that was shown before the feature film in all military motion picture
theaters during World War II. Each show consisted of five segments,
with stories ranging from homefront news to news about the war to
entertainment shows. By the end of the war, it reached a weekly
audience of over four million men and women stationed all over the
world. Segments include Hollywood Canteen, G.I. Journal, By Request,
Command Performance, Jubilee, Mail Call and the popular G.I cartoon
Private Snafu. Hollywood celebrities include Lucille Ball, Bob Hope,
Dinah Shore, Eddie Cantor, Lena Horne, Jimmy Durante and Abbott &
Costello performing their classic, "Who's on First?" 58 mins. |
