Director Mabel Cheung attended NYU film school, and this bittersweet romantic drama grew out of her own experiences in Manhattan's lower east side. A naive young woman named Jennifer (Cherie Chung) follows her obnoxious boyfriend from Hong Kong to New York only to find him enjoying the affections of an attractive Chinese-American and planning to move to another city. Jennifer is forced to rely on her rough-edged, and often vulgar, older cousin Sampan (Chow Yun Fat) for companionship and advice. Cantonese with English subtitles.
