| Brief Description: | An ancient Korean folktale forms the basis of this menacing horror film from director Kim Jee-woon. Su-mi (Im Su-jeong) and her younger sister Su-yeon (Mun Geun-yeong) return to their father's forboding house after a period of hospitalization following the death of their mother. The girls' father has since taken a new wife, who irritates them with her chipper enthusiasm. But this enthusiasm quickly turns to sadism, and it becomes apparent that Eun-ju (Yeom Jeong-ah) is hiding a dark and mysterious secret. One of the top-grossing international horror films of 2004, Janghwa, Hongryeon is "a tour de force of psychological horror at its creepiest" (Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times). In Korean with English subtitles. |
