Book IV is one of the most popular of the 12 books of this classic Roman tale. Manipulated into marriage to Dido, our hero Aenas travels to settle Carthage. Soon, however, he is visited by Mercury. The wing-footed god tells Aeneas he must leave Dido before a madness settles over her. Rome is his destiny! Dido, outraged and overcome with grief at his leaving, takes her own life in sorrow.
