| Popular director Mani Ratnam tries to regain his commercial touch after two consecutive flops (Iruvar and Uyire). This time it's a low-budget flick that deals with a contemporary love story. The movie appears to be solely targetted at the Tamil audience, after the director's last movie which was originally made in Hindi.
R. Madhavan, a Hindi tele-serials star, makes his Tamil cinema debut, alongside Shalini. Mani Ratnam favourite Arvind Swamy also appears in a supporting role. Kushboo, whose dream was to act in a movie directed by the big name director, also appears in an important role. Another bonus includes the acting debut of the director himself. Also dubbed in Telugu named 'Sakhi'
This film has Mani Ratnam and cinematographer P.C. Sriram for the first time since Thiruda Thiruda. The two earlier collaborated to produce several hit films, and contributed to each other's popularity.
Songs are composed by A.R. Rahman.
The story deals with two lovers who get married opposing their families. The movie goes on what happens after the marriage, and how the newly weds handle problems in their lives. |
