| Brief Description: | Glasnost Film Festival Vol. 11: Final Verdict and The Evening
Sacrifice. Final Verdict is a look at an actual case: a handsome
student, on trial, killed a woman and her guest. This remarkable
investigation of "in cold blood" tries to understand the motivation
behind the tragedy. The killer is a man of intelligence, and during
his 20 months on death row discovers he is no longer the person he
once was. The film argues the death sentence does not remove the guilt
of the killer. Directed by Hertz Frank, 1987, 88 mins. The Evening
Sacrifice captures the spirit of a crowd. "He placed the camera in the
right place and turned it on at the right moment" in this freewheeling
example of "underground" filmmaking from the Soviet Union. Directed by
Alexander Sokurov, 1987, 17 mins. Russian with English subtitles. |
