| Brief Description: | Office automation has become by far the major application of data processing on micro-computers. Given the wide range of didactic and commercial literature and the vast number of translations of users' manuals and advertisements on the subject, the three or four small vocabularies presently available, which are circulated within a restricted area of users, cannot meet the needs of translators, information retrieval specialists, and technical writers. This is the reason why this present dictionary was undertaken. The dictionary contains in English, French, German and Dutch, the vocabulary of office automation software programs for micro-computers. The subfields covered are the following: word processing; desktop publishing; database and file management systems; decision support systems; spreadsheets and graphers; messaging systems; videotex. The terminology compiled is used in the manuals of popular software packages and in articles of specialized journals on micro-computing. Consequently, for programming, data processing, editing, statistics or planning, only the terms currently found in this body of literature are kept. However, collocations have been included because they are useful for translators and cannot always be separated from proper terms.
