More than just an anthropological documentary, this rare, beautifully made document of the Voladar ritual as performed by the Totonac Indians of Huehuetla, Mexico, brings alive the mythic dimensions of ritual communal celebration. The Voladores (Flyers) ritual is perhaps the oldest surviving dance in the Western Hemisphere, dating back to 500 A.D. It is accompanied by flute and drum music and narration taken from 15th-century Nahuatl poetry.
